This year, our teams across the country stepped out of the office and into our communities – armed with compassion and a desire to make a difference.
JOHANNESBURG OFFICE – SPREADING WARMTH, ONE HOTDOG AT A TIME
In Johannesburg, our branch joined hands with the Paper Roll Converters team to bring comfort and kindness to the homeless in surrounding areas with freshly prepared hotdogs and refreshments. What began as handing out food became a powerful moment of restoring dignity and spreading kindness to those often overlooked in everyday life.
In the true spirit of Mandela Day, the Jo’burg team came together to make a small difference in the lives of those in need.
CAPE TOWN OFFICE – SHARING STORIES AND SMILES WITH THE ELDERLY
In Cape Town, the team chose to spend the day with the residents of Kensington Home for the Aged. It was a chance to share stories, laughter, and heartfelt moments over a warm meal – and the companionship brought real joy to those who often long for connection. For many team members, the visit was a reminder that presence can be as valuable as any donation.
The Cape Town team’s visit to Kensington Home for the Aged reminded us of the importance of empathy, respect, and giving back to the community.
DURBAN OFFICE – BRINGING JOY TO VULNERABLE CHILDREN
In Durban, our staff brightened the lives of children in need with thoughtfully assembled care packages delivered to St. Thomas Children’s Home, St. Monica’s Children’s Home, Lakehaven Children’s Home, iCare and Journey of Hope. Packs included essential items, snacks and treats – small tokens of love delivered with smiles and messages of hope.
The Durban team was honoured to contribute to these incredible organisations and the inspiring children they support. Even small gestures can bring light into someone’s life.
This Mandela Day reaffirmed something we hold close at Gerber Paper: when we act together, even the smallest gestures can create lasting change. Here’s to carrying the spirit of Ubuntu into every day of the year.
